Our Service

Sweet Surprise is a service for adults with learning disabilities to develop skills while being an active part of our community.

We can provide a cooked lunch and transport from Yeovil and surrounding areas.

Most trainees are in receipt of council funding through Personal Budgets or Direct Payments.

We provide an extensive range of courses which are constructed within the framework of our AQA Certification.

All of the following allow people to create, to train, and to acquire skills whilst being rewarded by the qualifications offered by the accredited examining board. Every activity allows differentiation for every ability and an opportunity to learn.

We alternate all our activities throughout the day and the week, which gives everyone a chance to develop a variety of skills.

About our building

We can be found in Ilminster's town centre, opposite the church. Our building was the Plaza Cinema from the 1930s, which was converted into a shop by R.A.Dyer (clothing) in the 1950s, eventually becoming Sweet Surprise as we know it today.

It now houses our Cafe and Sweet Shop, which are open daily. Behind this we have a large hall that is divided into spaces for differing groups.

To the rear we have a large working kitchen where we prepare the food for our cafe.

Upstairs we have another large space with a comprehensive suite of I.T. equipment and a place to enjoy quiet group lessons and speech & language work.
